DESCRIPTION OF SESSION TYPES
Plenary Symposia
The plenary symposia are the core of the Congress activities. Leading international speakers are invited to prepare comprehensive reviews of a major subject within allergy, addressed to all congress participants. Plenary symposia are scheduled at "prime time" in the programme, in order to allow maximum attendance. Two parallel plenary symposia are held, one mainly clinical and the other focused on basic science.
Symposia
The main symposia are state of the art educational sessions in which the speakers critically review diverse aspects of a specific topic. The target audience is delegates who are primarily interested in the subject or those who wish to update their knowledge in the area.
Workshops
In workshops speakers are expected to share their personal experience in a field, which may be clinical or basic. This may include diagnosis and management of clinical conditions or different aspects of relevant research. These sessions are addressed to participants who wish to discuss the topics, and time is allowed for interactive discussion during and at end of the session.
Post Graduate Course
Postgraduate courses are scheduled on the Saturday of the congress, and are designed to provide a thorough review of areas considered of special interest. Clear learning objectives are provided so that delegates attending these courses will achieve a comprehensive knowledge of that topic.
Nurses Programme
A specific programme for Nurses working in Allergy is planned on the day preceding the main Congress. Practical aspects of nurses' clinical work will be reviewed by professionals from different European countries.
Business meetings
Business meetings of the Sections and Interest Groups are the forum where EAACI members develop their activities and propose sessions for future congresses. Most business meetings start with an academic lecture or debate which is open to everyone who wishes to attend.
Meet the Expert
The meet the expert sessions allow delegates to sit in a small group with outstanding researchers and clinicians and discuss relevant issues on an informal basis. Participants are encouraged to table their questions for discussion.
Hot Topic
The hot topic sessions enable delegates to hear about the latest developments in allergy science and clinical practice. Compared to the main symposia, hot topic sessions are more informal and there is always space discussion.
Debate, Pro & Con
We all know that in medicine and science there is space for differences of opinion! Two types of debate are planned: semi-formal debates in the session halls, with a vote taken before and afterwards, and the "Pro & Con Ring" in the exhibition hall, where the debate is serious, but the style is more competitive.
Year in Review
Experts review the literature of the past year and present selected highlights published in their area.
Sponsored Symposia
EAACI's Founder Sponsors present a company-sponsored symposium within the main Congress programme. The content of these symposia is proposed by the Founder Sponsors and approved by the Scientific Programme Committee.
Satellite Symposia
At the end of the day, satellite symposia sponsored by companies take place. The scientific content of satellite sessions is the responsibility of the sponsor.
